Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Mohamed Laissy

Reinforced concrete · Seismic response · Sustainable construction · AI in engineering education

Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Prince Mugrin, Medina. Head of the College of Engineering Curriculum Committee and the Department Quality Assurance Committee; former Head of the Civil Engineering Department (2017–2024). Over three decades in structural engineering — from governmental engineering service in Egypt to academia across Egypt, Libya, and Saudi Arabia — with a research focus on the seismic behaviour of RC buildings on sloped terrain, projectile-resistant concrete, and structural strengthening.

01 — About

Engineer, educator, and academic leader — building structures and the programs that train those who design them.

Dr. Mohamed Laissy is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Prince Mugrin (UPM) in Medina, Saudi Arabia, and the former Head of the Civil Engineering Department (2017–2024). He currently chairs the College of Engineering Curriculum Committee and the Department Quality Assurance Committee. His career spans more than thirty years across structural engineering practice and academia — including fifteen years of governmental engineering service in Egypt, rising to a senior engineering role, followed by academic appointments in Egypt, Libya, and Saudi Arabia.

His research centres on the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete buildings — particularly on sloped terrain in Saudi Arabia — the design of projectile-resistant concrete using ceramics, fibres, and high-toughness materials, and the strengthening and preservation of existing structures such as the historic Makhet Castle on the Hejaz Railway.

As former department head (2017–2024) and a member of UPM's University Council, he leads curriculum design, program-level assessment, and academic accreditation — chairing the College of Engineering Curriculum Committee and the Department Quality Assurance Committee, serving as an internal auditor and NCAAA accreditation reviewer, and contributing to the institutional accreditation UPM was awarded in 2022.
